For a organized adult swim workouts, the Masters Swim Team in Johnson City meets three mornings a week. Contact Coach Chris Corragio for more information. Beyond the Masters team, there are several swimming pools in the Tri-Cities where athletes can train on their own.
Open water swims are available during the summer months. These are not club-sponsored events, so anyone can join in. These swims, which are organized week-to-week by various individuals, generally occur at one of two venues listed below. Check the discussion forum or calendar for dates and times.
- Warriors Path State Park. The usual swim route starts near the parking lot on Duck Island and follows a loop of varying length, up to about 1 mile. This is a protected inlet on the lake, so waves and boat wakes are rarely a problem. Click here for a map.
- Watauga Lake. The swim begins at the boat ramp near the dam and generally heads straight across the lake to the opposite shore, and back. The distance is about 1200 meters one way. Because the swim route crosses the main body of the lake, waves and wakes can be an issue. Often, swimmers will organize a small flotilla of kayaks and canoes to escort them across.
